Someone calls 911 for your residence. What would you like the emergency personnel to know about the unique situation at your house? Would that knowledge make a difference in how the responders approached a dangerous situation such as a fire, medical emergency or domestic issue?
Logan’s Law (Georgia House Bill 631), passed in the 2021-2022 session, represents a significant legislative effort aimed at enhancing the interaction between law enforcement/emergency responders and individuals who may face communication challenges due to various conditions. It is named after a teenager with severe autism from Marion County.

Cobb County launched Logan’s List in Fall 2023 in response to the new law. Residents have the option to join the list and provide information about a specific member of the household who may have communication difficulties or not respond in a typical manner. In addition to the general name/address/emergency contact info, the form allows for responses to the following questions:
Once this information is on Logan’s List, it will be provided to the emergency responders if they are called to the Cobb County addresses provided on the form. The information will need to be updated every 6 months to remain on the list.
City of Kennesaw/Acworth 911 will also be forwarded any information from Cobb County’s Logan’s List. The Cities of Marietta and Powder Springs utilize the Cobb County 911 service system. Please verify through your 911 system if you are in another municipality as the forwarded information is specific to each 911 system.
Both Paulding and Cherokee Counties also have versions of the list. Cherokee County uses an approach like Cobb County. Paulding County uses the RAVE – Smart 911 system.
The Smart 911 system is a smart phone app. You may enter a significant amount of medical information and details about any member of your household. It is not specific to a special concern situation. You are even able to enter information on your pets! Access to the information will be tied to your cell phone number and released to emergency responders if 911 is called from your specific cell phone.
These voluntary lists provide peace of mind that your unique situation will be considered in an emergency situation. I hope you never need to call 911, but I am truly grateful Logan’s List and RAVE – Smart 911 are available to help provide vital communication to first responders during an emergency.
